Here are some DIY tips which you can use when setting up your home for Christmas – putting up lights and decorations, maintaining your furniture especially after a party and generally keeping your sanity intact
Lighting up your house with series lights and bulbs? Always label your wires. So you aren’t fumbling for which lights to turn on and off. Use bread tabs to do this.
When you want to nail your wall to hang decorations, stick a small piece of tape where you are going to hammer in the nail. This will prevent paint from chipping off.
Wobbly furniture and no time? Use nail polish to tighten screws into furniture or cabinets. This also prevents rusting of screws in the long run
Lighting up your home with candles? Steady a candle by wrapping tape at the bottom.
Kids with crayons running amok in your home at Christmas? If your furniture has wax crayon stains on it, or even wax spills from the candles in your home, blow dry the area until the wax melts and wipe it off. This is also great to remove water stains of wood furniture.
If these very kids paint your walls with crayons use toothpaste to remove marks, by squirting a small amount in the area. Wipe off the wall with a soft cloth and warm water.
Loosen outdoor light bulbs easily using petroleum jelly. Rub a little on the threads before you screw it in and it wont stick in the future.
Rub a screwdriver handle with chalk to prevent it from slipping regularly. Chalk is also great to hide minor cracks in the walls before you paint over them.
Having guests over and your drains are clogging up? Keep your drains clean by putting four tablespoons of baking soda in them each week. Flush it down with hot water.
When you are putting up lights for Christmas, make sure there is someone around for company. This goes a long way is ensuring your safety.
